Darlington Snacks Supports Joplin Students with Donation to Bright Futures

Local manufacturer to provide snack products to the Bright Futures Snack Pack Program for food-insecure students.

Joplin, Mo., (May 28, 2021) – Darlington Snacks, a family-owned commercial bakery, today announced it will donate its Appleways Whole Grain Soft Oatmeal Bars and a variety of other snack products to Bright Futures Joplin. This donation will support the Bright Future Snack Pack Program that ensures food-insecure elementary students in the district have enough to eat on weekends.

“This new partnership with Darlington Snacks is really exciting for us at Bright Futures Joplin, because it’s going to benefit so many of our children. Thanks to local sponsorships and donors, our Snack Packs program serves about 400 food-insecure students across the Joplin district each weekend. The fact that Darlington Snacks wants to be a part of this great program means the world to us, and it fits right in with our mission, which is to bring together our local community of resources that can bridge the gap for our students in need. We are honored to have Darlington Snacks in our community of partners, and incredibly grateful for their willingness to help feed Joplin students, “ says Sarah Coyne, Bright Futures Joplin Coordinator.

With over 7,000 students enrolled in Joplin Schools, and 60% of them living in poverty, Bright Futures Joplin works to build relationships and set students up for success. This is achieved through a number of initiatives to support student needs, including mentoring and tutoring programs, a donations center, weekend food supplies, and site councils to help schools reach their goals.

“Darlington Snacks became a part of the Joplin community five years ago when we opened our manufacturing facility here,” says Ryan Hockemeyer, President and COO of Darlington Snacks. “We’re excited to give back to this vibrant community by supporting the food needs of local students. Bright Futures is an excellent organization dedicated to helping kids, while also strengthening families and the community, and we’re proud to be able to support their mission.”
